In June, we went to Spain. Yeah, I know June was two months ago and we've been back in the States for about a month now, but things have been busy. So busy, in fact, that I'm just now getting around to doing things that require procrastination...which means the blog gets some attention. Also, Hannah has been pressuring me in the comments.
So anyways, we went to Spain to visit Matt's friend Dutch. He and his lovely girlfriend Rachel were excellent hosts; despite having two visitors back-to-back, they happily trekked to all the sites in Granada and the surrounding areas, cooked us amazing meals, and didn't complain when we became obsessed with going out for tapas every single night.
One of the major sites in Granada is the Alhambra, which was every bit as breathtaking as we heard it would be. I've got hundreds of pictures from our full day inside, but posting them all wouldn't even do it justice. The gardens were my favorite though, especially with all the fountains on such a hot day!
We also took a day trip to Córdoba to walk around the winding streets, check out the old Islamic architecture around the city, and eat some of the local Salmorejo Cordobes (similar to gazpacho). I think the Spanish food might have been one of my favorite parts of the trip (shocking!), and towards the end we got in the habit of having first breakfast, second breakfast, la comida (lunch), an afternoon snack, and lots of tapas for "dinner." Fortunately, we were walking for hours in the intense heat every day, so it didn't seem overly indulgent.
Then, we went hiking; an adventure that included ancient suspension bridges unable to support more than three people at a time and "accidentally" doing the 8k route over the mountains when we set out for a leisurely 3k jaunt around the waterfalls. While it was hot and tiring at the time, we got to see some incredible sights and eat delicious cherries of the tree at the top (which may or may not have been stealing).
Eating, walking, and sun. Awesome. The end.
